Unesco designated Flamenco as being an “intangible cultural heritage” in 2010. The Andalusian region of Spain is considered one of the main areas for Flamenco, although the song and dance also has roots in Murcia and Extremadura. Here in Southern California, there are now dance schools in Long Beach, Burbank and in Orange County. The freedom of whipping the skirt, expressing rhythm with guitar, hand claps and heels clicking on the floor is like nothing else.
